Heath Deliver Statement Win to Reach Yorkshire Bowl Final

Reporter: Al Gordon
Dated: 1 March 2026

Heath U15s travelled to Laund Hill carrying equal parts determination and unfinished business. January’s heavy defeat still stung, but a focused week of training and a clear game plan set the tone for a performance that will live long in the memory. With a stiff wind sweeping down the long Laund Hill pitch, captain Jasper Haigh won the toss and chose to use the conditions early—and Heath never looked back.

⚡ A blistering start with the wind at their backs

The opening kick sailed dead, a sign of just how strong the wind was, but Heath immediately asserted themselves. The front-row trio of Lewis Farrell, James Travis and Harry Lowe demolished the first scrum, shunting Laund Hill backwards and giving the backs the perfect platform.

From the right-hand side, Will Carter, Sonny Gordon, Louie Moss and Ethan Murphy combined sharply to release Alfie Cartwright, who hit the outside channel at full pace. From 40 metres out he simply turned on the afterburners, scorching past his opposite man and finishing under the posts.

Heath were clearly in the mood. Laund Hill’s lineout was functioning well, but they couldn’t break into Heath territory. The defensive line was disciplined, connected and aggressive. A potential try-of-the-season moment came when winger Kai Knowles picked off an intercept and raced away, only for the referee to call him back for a marginal offside—agonisingly close.

💪 Forward graft and a clinical edge

After 20 minutes, Jacob Marshall replaced the industrious Ben Ingham, and Heath’s pack continued to squeeze Laund Hill deep in their own corner. Big carries from Humphrey Hall softened the defence, and from close range Ethan Murphy powered over in the corner. Gordon, kicking into the wind from the touchline, nailed a superb conversion.

With the clock ticking down in the first half, Heath weren’t done. Smart hands down the blindside from Carter and Gordon opened a sliver of space, and Murphy burst through it, accelerating away from 30 metres to score his second. Gordon added another outstanding conversion.

The coaches could hardly have asked for more. The lads had executed the plan perfectly: use the wind, dominate physically, and take chances clinically.

🛡️ Second-half resilience in the face of chaos

Playing into the wind, Heath showed maturity beyond their years. Unlike Laund Hill in the first half, they managed to play in the right areas, pinning the hosts back and frustrating both players and supporters.

As the pressure mounted, Laund Hill’s discipline crumbled. A series of high tackles brought consecutive penalties, and eventually a yellow card. The home crowd didn’t like it, but the decisions were clear.

Heath kept hammering the line, staying composed despite the rising temperature. Then came a flashpoint: Charlie Anderson was taken out off the ball and forced to leave the field. A full-team scuffle followed, and Cartwright was shown a yellow. Moments later, a bloodied Sonny Gordon was also sin-binned for coming in from the side, leaving Heath down to 13.

Even then, they refused to break. With seconds left, another penalty went Heath’s way. Murphy tapped, booted the ball into touch, and the final whistle confirmed a famous victory.

⭐ A performance for the ages

This was everything the lads had hoped for: redemption, discipline, physicality, and total commitment. Every player emptied the tank. Captain Jasper Haigh was immense—calm, controlled, and authoritative under real pressure.

Man of the Match: Sonny Gordon
His most complete performance of the season. Under constant harassment from the Laund Hill openside, he stayed composed, created space for forwards and backs alike, and delivered a flawless kicking display in brutal conditions.

This one will be talked about for a long time. A bruising, brilliant, fully earned place in the Yorkshire Bowl final.
