Senior Rugby at Heath RUFC

Heath currently runs two open age sides on a regular basis, with a third "Social" team playing from time to time. There are two good pitches at the North Dean ground with a superb clubhouse and changing facilities. The main pitch has match standard floodlights and a stand, with the second pitch having quality training lights. Training is held at the Club on Tuesday and Thursday nights, meet 6.45pm for a 7.00pm start but if conditions deteriorate during the winter months, then we try to hire all weather or indoor facilities.

We have the services of Director of Rugby Dave Harrison, Head Coach Chris Johnson, Player Coach Josh Crickmay and fitness coaches Spence Blackmore and Dan Flemming.

This season the First XV will be playing their third season in Regional 1 North East, level 5 in the RFU pyramid. The team has had two very successful seasons in this league, finishing runners up twice and are working hard to go one better this time, with the coaching staff and First Team Captain Harvey Keighley-Payne striving to ensure this comes about. They are supported in their efforts by all of the Officers of the Club, plus the many players and followers of Heath.

They are also current holders of the Papa Johns National Cup, having beaten Barnstaple, in the final, at Twickenham, on the 11th May 2024.  Read the full report of the match here.

Meanwhile, the Second XV, known as the Hawks, play in the Yorkshire and North East Premier League.

The third team squad play a number of friendly fixtures throughout the season.

All Teams train together on Tues & Thurs.

At the start of each season all players receive pre-match kit and match shorts & socks. All players are asked to find, if possible, a sponsor at a cost of £120 but if they cannot find one then they pay club subscriptions.

Players have full physiotherapy assessment/support at training and the Firsts have coverage before, during and after each league and cup game. If further treatment is required, the club is linked to Vale Physiotherapists in West Vale where appointments can be made.

Remember, that even though we've a strong and well-organised playing set up, we are also a welcoming Club with a good social life - just look at the News and Events section on this site for confirmation.

After a major overall of its facilities with a new clubhouse, state of the art changing rooms and physio area, revamped junior/training rooms as well as landscaping the site we have also added a fully equipped gym area, improved car parking and pitch surrounds linked to the superb floodlit pitches and training areas we feel we could be viewed as the Premier Amateur Club in the Halifax and Calderdale area.

By the way - there's more............

Age Grade Rugby (formerly ref to as Junior Rugby).

At Heath RUFC we are proud to run several age grade sides - with more to be added 2024/25.  Chair for the Junior section is Chris Moore.

Girls Rugby

For 2024/25 Heath will be running two Girls sides - U14 & U18.  These teams have their own Coaching staff.  Mark Garside, Tyler Parkinson and Ava Garside.

Every effort is made to ensure all players are coached the basics of rugby and make progress needed to eventually feed into the senior teams.

At present the Senior teams have in their squad several players who have come through the ranks.

All teams have a number of fully qualified coaches who help out with the organisation of training and on matchdays.

Age Grade teams are also well supported by parents/carers.
