Heath U15s Storm into Round 2 of the Yorkshire Cup 🏆
In their debut Yorkshire Cup fixture, Heath U15s hosted Driffield at West Vale under dry skies and a stiff breeze. With 18 players in the squad, led by Captain Humphrey Hall and Vice Captain Sonny Gordon, Heath wasted no time asserting themselves.
From the opening kick-off, Heath applied pressure. A pinpoint chase forced Driffield into a risky pass across their own try line — Alfie Cartwright pounced with a thunderous tackle, scooped up the loose ball, and dived over for the opener. Converted by Gordon.
Heath 7 – 0 Driffield
Receiving the restart on their 20m line, Heath built a ruck before Lennon Wood linked with Harry Lowe, who fed Louie Moss. Moss tore down the right wing for 40 metres before offloading to Cartwright for his second, under the posts. Another clean conversion from Gordon.
Heath 14 – 0 Driffield
Heath’s intensity didn’t let up. A rush defence led by Moss and James Travis kept Driffield penned in. Fullback Ethan Murphy sliced through with a dazzling run, and slick handling across the line set up Charlie Anderson for a superb team try. Gordon added the extras.
Heath 21 – 0 Driffield
Driffield showed grit, sticking to their game plan with strong carries and tidy recycling. Their outside centre looked dangerous, but Heath’s defence held firm.
Before the break, Heath added two more tries — Will Carter sprinting over and the final one a powerful 5m charge from Harry Lowe off the back of a ruck.
Half-time: Heath 31 – 0 Driffield
The coaching team praised the opening 20 minutes but challenged the lads to replicate that fire in the second half. They delivered.
Just a minute in, Louie Moss danced down the left touchline, showcasing footwork and strength to score a stunning solo try. Gordon converted.
Heath 38 – 0 Driffield
Lewis Farrell entered at loosehead prop and immediately helped turn the screw, driving the Driffield pack backwards alongside Knowles, Ingham, Travis, Haigh, Mekala, Anderson, Crowther, and Hall — a dominant shift from the Heath engine room.
Playing into the wind from halfway, Heath looked set for a textbook overlap, but Gordon opted for flair — a cross-field kick to Ethan Gill, who plucked it from the air and raced clear to score in the corner.
Heath 43 – 0 Driffield
Driffield’s repeated kicks to Thomas Crowther proved costly. TC returned each one with punishing runs, breaking tackles and setting the platform for Heath’s final score — Lowe again powering over from close range.
Heath 50 – 0 Driffield
Under Yorkshire Cup rules, the match concluded at the 50-point margin. Both sides added a final try apiece before the whistle.
This was a performance to be proud of. Heath’s mindset, culture, and hunger to improve were on full display — a brilliant start to their Cup campaign.
