Huddersfield RUFC welcomed Heath u13s on a dry and mild Sunday morning with coach/referee Daz Neilly in charge of proceedings. Heath had a relatively smaller squad of 17 compared to Huddersfield’s 23 - great to see strong numbers at the u13s! The game was played over four quarters of 15 mins each period.

In the opening two minutes is was Heath to strike first with Humphrey Hall taking first phase ball to break four tackles to sprint 50m to score. Hudd 0 - 5 Heath.

Heath were building pressure well after the restart. Captain Farrell was leading by example running hard off stand-off Gordon’s shoulder, which led to inside centre Murphy finding space to score from 20m out. Hudd 0 - 10 Heath.

Huddersfield responded well with their hooker making strong runs into Heaths half. Try to the home team, Hudd 5 - 10 Heath.

Heath started the next quarter strongly. An early break by Logan Hall was manfully stopped by a superb cover tackle from Huddersfield. However Logan Hall was not to be stopped in the next play down the left wing and went in from 40m. Huddersfield 5 - 15 Heath.

Heath spent the next 5 mins in the Huddersfield half. A delightful combination of strong platform at scrum time then Gordon sucking in two defenders before a magical offload to Moss to crash over - try of the day. Huddersfield 5 - 20 Heath.

Huddersfield responded immediately and brought the scoreline 10 - 20…game on at half time! Unfortunately Heath lost scrum half Wood to a nasty injury so forced reshuffles were made.

In the second half took the game to Huddersfield by camping on their line. Tries by Logan and Humphrey Hall extended Heath lead to 10 - 30.

In the final quarter the boys were blowing hard and the larger Huddersfield squad found holes out wide. 15 - 30. Stand in scrum half Helliwell-MacDonald played a great switch with Moss who burst through to score. 15 - 35. Huddersfield scored the final try of the game - final score 20 - 35.

A fantastic game played by both teams. The competition over the ruck was awesome, both teams looked to play an expansive game which brought great entertainment for the teams supporters.

Congratulations to Lewis Farrell for his first outing as Captain - led by example. The lines of running by all the forwards today was outstanding and set the platform for the backs to create problems for Huddersfield.

Hats off to Logan Hall and Humphrey Hall for a brace of tries each.

Man of the match was Louie Moss for an outstanding performance with and without the ball in hand.
