Heath take the spoils in local derby

Reporter: Alistair Gordon
Dated: 15 October 2023

Heath u13s made the short trip to Old Brods which included an unplanned but welcomed three way with Cleckheaton too.

It was Brods first up in a 30 min fixture with Heath playing up the slope.  Heath were slow out of the blocks allowing Brods to collect their own kick-off.  However, the lads got into their game plan and within 7 mins the ball went down the right for Logan Hall to score. 0-5.

Heath’s forwards were securing possession to allow the backs to go open down the right.  Great support work by Humphrey Hall led to Heaths second try. 0-10.

Brods responded well and before half-time scored two well earned tries to bring it level 10-10.  Heath now had the advantage of the slope for the second half.

Immediately Heath were putting pressure on Brods.  Captain Logan Helliwell-MacDonald led the way by barging over.  10-15.  The handling by Heath was impressive and their game plan coming together.  Big hits from Jasper Haigh kept Brods from breaking the Heath line.

Heath went right from a scrum and found space for Logan Hall to score his second try.  10-20.  Brods we’re struggling to contain Heath and the lads took it up a level. A final well taken try by Alfie Cartwright - full time 10-25.
