Another confident performance brings a win and a bonus point as well.

Heath welcomed back Ian Downsborough from his stint abroad and he slotted in at 8, for unavailable Jones, in an otherwise unchanged side from that which beat Old Brodleians last week. On the bench Luke Clogher and Danny Ramsden returned alongside Olly Cook but overall this was a more settled side for Heath. The perfect start for Heath! From a scrum, Cole released Hetherington who in turn passed to Moana. He fed Brown and Montgomery was on hand to go over for a try, Lomas converted and Heath were7 – 0 up after 2 minutes. Dinnington came back but Heath were quickly on the attack again and only the referee, who blew for crossing, prevented a further try on 8 minutes. The next action to have the crowd on their feet was a break from Lomas who picked up a ball from Hinchcliffe and ran fully 50 metres before being hauled down; back up and the ball sped to Hetherington whose kick cross field saw Richardson just fail to catch with a try beckoning. Dinnington were making too many mistakes and Heath needed to just keep going to capitalise. Some good rugby saw their second try. Downsborough picked up at the base of a scrum, released Hetherington who had a superb cross field run, evading several tackles. He then threw a pass out to Brown who, despite the efforts of two Dinnington players, went over for an unconverted try on 24 minutes, 12 – 0. Heath were well in control and a period of sustained pressure plus some ill-discipline from the visitors, saw Brown nearly have a touch down, but the referee ruled it out. Dinnington persevered and as half-time approached managed to get on the scoreboard with a penalty from West, 12 – 3. Half-time substitutes Danny Ramsden and Olly Cook came on for prop Watson and backrow Collinge. Dinnington seemed spurred on from the late first half penalty and were quickly on to the attack from the restart of play. However it was short-lived, as Ramsden got quickly in to the play releasing Moana and then backing up with Hetherington and Montgomery; though, no points came. Next, Dinnington worked hard, came back up field and were looking for a try, on 55 minutes. However, big tackles from Puttick and Downsborough kept things in check though Heath were still under the cosh and finally they gave away another penalty, 12 – 6. Heath responded with a vengeance. When Lomas took a long clearance his high kick was chased on by the Heath players and a favourable bounce saw the returning Downsborough pick up and score a try, converted by Lomas, 19 – 6 on 58 minutes, the perfect reply. However some slack play from Heath saw Dinnington centre Stimpson pick up a loose ball and run half the length of the field for an unconverted try. 19 – 11, which brought the visitors back into the contest, on 62 minutes. Coach Kevin Plant then brought Luke Clogher on for winger Brown. Montgomery was, again, leading by example and made some strong runs along with prop Chris Moore. One drive set up a scrum and from the resulting chase for the ball Ramsden harried the visitors’ defence, stole the ball and picked up a try. This was converted by Lomas, 26 – 11 on 68 minutes. Back came Dinnington and, despite a valiant effort, Heath could not prevent centre Donnelly going over, converted by West and 26 – 18 the score on 75 minutes. Heath needed to regroup to ensure victory. Great effort from Cole and Cook released Moana, whose finely weighted pass to Montgomery was adjudged forwards as a try beckoned, much to the surprise of the loyal band of home supporters. Heath continued to look for another score but one last effort as Moore kicked through and picked up, saw his pass to Montgomery again judged forwards. As the final whistle blew, Heath were 26 – 18 on top and had put together another convincing performance. Additionally, they’d picked up one bonus point and stopped the visitors getting one themselves. This meant they were now one point above Dinnington in Yorkshire 1.
