Report:
Heath entertained a youthful Moortown side, sportingly lending players to improve the contest.
Both sides started well, showing commitment in defence and a willingness to play good rugby in testing conditions. After ten minutes, Josh Beck was first on the scoresheet as he found space out wide before dummying and crashing through the final defender (5-0). This was quickly followed up by the next score, Alex Patrick, Oli Burbidge and Jonny Cole carried hard before Carrick Keighley-Payne made a great break followed by George Heron smashing his way over from a tap penalty, Sam Fletcher converted (12-0).
Heath were dominant at this stage and brilliant hands involving all of the backline released Harry Granger to scamper over out wide (17-0). Sam Cox was buzzing about at the base and he scored a deserved try after backing up a powerful surge from Beck, Fletcher converted (24-0). Try scorer turned try provider as Cox spotted Elliot Knight in acres of space out wide and put in an inch perfect kick for him to collect and score (29-0).
HT 29-0.
The Hawks were in complete control and talked about keeping standards high and adding to their tally.
Heath started well with Jack Bruce finding space and making great metres in attack. After a couple of destructive bursts by the forwards, Eddie Sunter found space to dot down wide left (34-0). Player of the match, Richard Dance was at his powerful best throughout, scoring the next try as he ran over the brave scrum half’s attempted tackle, Fletcher converted (41-0).
Fletcher followed this up with a try of his own, following up initial breaks by Matty Thornton and Beck before out flanking the defence (46-0). Burbidge got the next score for Moortown as he crashed through for a heavily fined try from close range (46-7). Nick Payne got the final score after a very strong showing in the second half, following up his own 30 metre break before collecting a short ball on the next phase to crash over (51-7). FT 51-7.
This was a mature and professional performance by the squad, special mention to all the lads that played for Moortown to keep the game flowing. 9 different try scorers (10 if you count Moortown’s) and entertaining rugby in testing conditions.
