Report:

The Hawks welcomed Wetherby to West Vale with both teams enjoying big wins last week.

The home side started well, looking to attack from the off. Joe Gallagher made the initial break before popping up the inside pass to Phil Cadogan to canter over, Gallagher converted.

Max Rowntree scored next, dummying his way over from twenty metres out. This was quickly followed by a catch and drive, Henry Hirst emerging with the ball. The powerful Josh Beck capitalised on a Wetherby mistake, snapping up the loose ball to score next to the posts, Gallagher added the two.

After some long breaks in midfield, Elliot Knight contemplated kicking wide or throwing a long pass to Sam Fletcher, before deciding to run at the retreating defence and score a converted try himself. Next up was a great try from prop, Oli Burbidge, catching an overthrown lineout before arcing round the stranded fullback for a great score. Player of the match, Fletcher scored right on the stroke of half time, powering over from close range, Gallagher converted.

HT 43-0.

The returning Martyn Barnes was enjoying himself in midfield, with back rowers Will Baxter, Nicholas Payne and Brook Ward busy in attack and defence. The impressive Rowntree notched his second, scoring straight from a scrum ten metres out, Gallagher converted. Hirst doubled his tally, benefiting from some good hands before bouncing off the fullback to score. Harry Granger, now at scrum half, snapped up the ball to scamper home untouched, Chris O’Connor added the extras. Carrick Keighley-Payne ran hard in midfield and set up good position for debutant Matthew Thornton to finish well out wide only to see his try chalked off for a forward pass. With space all over the field, George Heron was next over, finding himself on the end of a massive overlap. Knight and Beck both scored their second tries, scoring out wide after some great hands in midfield.

FT 77-0.

This was another dominant display against a youthful side that never gave up. The Hawks are on their travels next week at Doncaster Phoenix.
