Report:

Heath continued their unbeaten start to the season with a dominant display at Selby.

The visitors were on top throughout the first half, combining damaging defence with blistering attacks. Eddie Cartwright opened the scoring with a well struck penalty. Carter Haigh entered the field earlier than expected when George Heron took an early knock, Haigh wasting no time with an impressive stint with ball in hand. Phil Cadogen scored his first try in the corner after good handling in backs with Olly Scrimshaw heavily involved. Max Rowntree made a long break and Oliver Cook drove hard in midfield before centres Jack Bruce and Si Brown released Joe Morrison who cantered home, Cartwright converted.

Bruce was next to score as he got on the outside of his man and dummied his way over. Matthew Wilkinson, Brook Ward and skipper Mark Puttick controlled the contact area and organised set pieces magnificently. After a turnover in midfield Bruce ran clear and found Max Rowntree in support who danced round the stranded fullback for a great score. Oli Burbidge was next to find space and sprinted clear and after a couple of well executed phases, Cadogen collected and dotted down in the corner. As half time approached, the home team’s player of the match Max Dawes, Will McLaughlin and Sam Sharp were relentless in both attack and defence. On the whistle Cadogen completed his hatrick on the end of another well executed backs move.

Halftime 0-35.

Selby sent on a number of interchanges to stem the relentless Heath attack. For the first time in the game the visitors were stretched as Selby began to ask questions. After sustained pressure, the home side scored a converted try. Cartwright was binned for a failed interception attempt before their impressive scrum half scooted and set up a second try.

Things got worse as McLaughlin saw yellow for obstructing a kick chase. Down to thirteen, Heath reacted superbly, pulling together and retaking control of the game. With Cartwright back, Wilkinson went hard at the line and twisted over for a deserved, converted score. With a full compliment back on the field Heath, lead by Puttick, saw out the game with no further score but superb defence even in the final minutes. Full time 12-42.

Another impressive display by this ever improving squad of players. We look to continue this form at home to Moortown next Saturday.
