Report:

Heath travelled to Yarnbury in good spirits after last week's great win. A late reshuffle saw the returning Will McLaughlin start at centre with the aim to get the visitors on the front foot. Heath started well and took the game to the home side, Brook Ward, Andy Coates and George Heron carried hard and lead the charge. From a scrappy breakdown, Matthew Wilkinson snapped up the ball and scampered unchallenged from the halfway to open the scoring, Olly Scrimshaw converted. Tobias Hinchliffe and Jack Bruce ran clear on a couple of occasions but were unable to add to the score. The home side scrambled well and their good defence was frustrating Heath. Experienced forward trio, Paul Turner, Joe Shipman and Ian Downsborough worked tirelessly all game and tightened up the middle to allow Max Rowntree and Scrimshaw to dictate play. Wilkinson scored his second after soft hands from Turner released Bruce before passing back inside for an unconverted try. Oli Burbidge replaced Heron as the scrum continued to dominate. Yarnbury finished the half with a penalty. Half time 3-12.

The visitors needed to start taking their chances and play more freely. Player of the match Phil Cadogen set the tone, gliding through a big gap to score a great try, Scrimshaw converted from out wide. McLaughlin, now at number eight, was punching holes in the tiring defence, one such run saw him link superbly with Bruce who beat the stranded full back to score. Wingers, Harry Granger and Luca Powell made a number of long breaks as Heath’s pace and vision opened up the defence. From a scrum twenty metres out, Scrimshaw bamboozled the opposition before scampering under the posts and converting his own score. Burbidge and Max Dawes carried well and set up the position for Granger to break free after great hands from Hinchliffe, finishing well in the corner. Yarnbury hit back with a converted try of their own. Heron completed the try scoring, barging his way over from close range, Scrimshaw converted. Full time 10-43.

This was a great start to the league campaign, picking up maximum points. The squad looks good and will go into next weeks game confident of continuing the great start. UTH 👊
