Report:

Heath arrived at Woodhead looking to avenge the reversal earlier in the year.

Attacking up the hill the away team battled hard and defended superbly against a big Brods pack and centres. The returning Andrew Coates, Sam Sharp and Brook Ward tackled ferociously, causing mistakes and turnover ball. From sustained pressure, Brods crashed over from close range for an unconverted try. After this score, Heath enjoyed the best part of the half, James Whitworth took a quick tap and scampered clear only for his pass to float forward to the unchallenged Mark Puttick. Centres Gaz Webb and Danny Greenwood were causing problems with and without the ball. Webb hit a great line off Ben Gianotti before flinging out the bouncing pass for the unmarked Eddie Sunter, Gianotti’s conversion attempt bounced out off the post. Oli Burbidge and Glen Warne entered the game for Carter Haigh and Whitworth respectively. With time ticking away Brods made a couple of long breaks with their scrum half going over from close range. Half time 10-5.

Haigh returned for Emlyn James. Heath knew they had the elements in their favour but knew they must play intelligently to succeed. The outstanding Michael Reynolds broke free but couldn’t finish the move, with him and Webb both kicking well. Tobias Hinchliffe and Chris Beever ran well and dealt with any attacks confidently. After a prolonged period of time in the Brods half and with the scrum dominating, Webb stepped his way over, Gianotti converted. Puttick rolled back the years with a great break up the touchline before flinging the scoring pass inside to the supporting Sunter who scampered over for an unconverted try. The backrow continued to work tirelessly and props, Warne and George Heron, defending well. Rob Terry replaced Beever. From a Brods line out, Reynolds gambled and collected an interception to race forty metres unopposed, Gianotti converted. Heath saw out the game to take the win, 10-24.

This was an outstanding performance by everyone involved. Fully deserved result and the effort on show was immense. UTH 👊
