On a gloomy day at Laund Hill, Heath went into the game confident of adding to their impressive results. From the start YMCA were on the attack, throwing everything at the visitors who held firm with some massive defence, lead by Max Dawes, Adam Milner and Joe Shipman. When Heath eventually gained possession, Richard Cole kicked sensibly and soon realised that the inexperienced back three were uncomfortable under the high kicks. One mistake lead to Heath pressure and Matthew Wilkinson collected short inside pass, wriggled free before sidestepping the fullback and outpacing the cover for an impressive try, Cole converted.
The home fullback fumbled the next box kick straight into Jack Bruce's hands, who scored a converted try from just inside YM's half. Heath were well on top now and dominating most areas. Skipper Toby Hinchliffe was next to benefit, running an excellent line off the influential Junaid Malik before cutting infield to score under the posts, Cole converted. The game became a little sloppy as Heath chased the bonus point try before half time. From a lineout 10 metres out, Heath's forwards controlled superbly and drove the mall over the line, Emlyn James emerging with the ball for a converted try. Half time 0-28.
Craig Morley replaced Richard Dance, with debutants Tom Sugden and Rob Terry replacing Hinchliffe and Cole. The next score combined both backs and forwards, strong carries from George Heron and Wilkinson and quick ball to Danny Greenwood put him clear. He drew the cover well before releasing Mark Puttick who cut inside on the 22 and had the pace to score under the posts, Jack Thornton converted. James Whitworth replaced James. Sugden and Owain Griffiths had good runs but the game wasn't flowing. YM had their best period of the match, hammering on Heath's line but again the defence stood firm and turnovers by Puttick and Milner repelled the danger. Malik was finding space and distributing sensibly from Terry's quick service. Hinchliffe returned for Wilkinson after he was pole axed by his opposite number. Heath finished strongly with the superb Greenwood running great lines to score a hatrick and seal the win, Thornton maintained the 100% kicking, converting all three.
This was another great win in poor conditions against a side that didn't give in. Next Saturday we face the current league leaders Moortown at home.
