Heath were well aware that league opponents Scarborough presented their toughest challenge of the season so far. Not helped by the lack of game play over the last two weeks plus the hindrance of a 2 hour trip prior to the game, Heath didn’t play to their full potential, something Scarborough capitalised on this as they put the first points on the score board midway through the first half (7-0, converted try).
After the first try of the game, Heath started to get hold of the ball a bit more as they drove the opposition back into their own half. Although Heath had good territory and possession, they never managed to get any points on the board before the half time whistle came.
As this was the game that both sides saw as a good stepping stone to the league title, the second half began as a well fought affair…until Heath gave away a penalty on their own 22. Scarborough then converted the penalty to take the game to 10-0.
There was still a long time left in the game for Heath to pull back the points, but they never seemed to get going as Scarborough won a lot of turn over ball and used it more effectively than Heath. This resulted in another try by Scarborough as they ran the ball through the backs and went over on the right hand side of the posts. (17-0, converted try).
Heath conceded again shortly afterwards, , for the last time this game, as Scarborough set up a maul on the left hand side of the pitch and drove their way over for the 3rd try of the game (22-0, unconverted try).
The game was now running for the opposition with our only try of the game. The try was scored by Callum Harriott-Brown, as he ran under the posts from a number 10 position, outpacing three players in his way. (22-7, Samuel Sharp converted the try).
The game finished after Heaths try was converted, and it was clear to see the players were disappointed with their performance. Anyone who watches Heath every, or most weeks, know that they could have easily beaten the Scarborough team. It just didn't happy for them this week.
Heath are still in a good position to win their league, they will just have to beat Scarborough at home in January.
Tom Berridge was named the backs man of match. Forwards man of the match went to Ryley Cowgill.
This was a huge wake up call for Heath, and it shows that if they want to win this league, they will have to play their best in every game to do so.
