Away to Barnsley, Heath’s Under 16s arrived at Shaw Lane uncertain of their host’s capabilities. Despite facing a physically larger size, Heath soon overcame any initial fears. Good play of the ball provided Callum Harriott-Brown with a near-clear path to the 22m line before passing to Man of the Match Jack Fox whose pacy drive saw him cross for the first point of the match. Domonic Ellam added the conversion.
Unable to match the pace of their visitors, Barnsley allowed the same trio to rack up another two converted tries before Heath turned their attentions to the opposite wing. Jacob Holmes found the space, making metres - the ball passing through Sam Dews to Liam Sykes who crossed just shy of the corner.
Heath seemed able to score at will as Harriott-Brown, Max Netherwood, Tom Berridge and Jack Raby all proceeded to cross with Ellam kicking two more conversions taking the half-time score-line to a more than dominant 52-0.
Barnsley managed to slow Heath’s progress in the second half although, it has to be said, Heath appeared to treat the remainder of the match as a training session. Ellam scored a great drop goal. Barnsley replied with their only try of the game before retreating back to their own half for the remainder of the game. Joe Holdsworth was unlucky not add points, crossing but unable to touchdown. Holmes then took an overdue try as he sidestepped his way through a lack-luster defence. Will Bennett followed suit with an excellent drive down the line with Holmes taking the final try. Ellam converted all his second half tries. Final score 76-5
