Excellent game. Some fine tries and a good win for Heath.

HEATH SENIOR COLTS entertained the unbeaten Hull and both teams entertained the crowd with a 10-try thriller. Hull arrived as the Heath forwards had had an early session working with Dave Harrison, putting them through their paces, and in the warm up session Heath lost Captain Hare and fellow back rower Porritt to injury. Not the best start to what was a must win game for the Heath boys. Hetherington altered the team giving a debut at 8 to Jud Fairbank and putting Dingsdale into the 2nd row with Brambles into the back row. Changes which worked superbly throughout the game, with Fairbank’s strong running and his ability to off load allowing Heath to make good ground continually. Hull started the stronger and showed why they were unbeaten, their pack was massive and well drilled and this forced Heath to defend from the off. The reshuffled backrow were starting to find their feet when Hull scored out wide, with a well-executed string of forward play, conversion missed. Heath were quickly level after Hinchliffe, who was outstanding, started to throw the ball out - allowing both centres Ledgard and Pollard to make valuable ground; and it was not long before the ball was passed through the hands allowing Parkinson to score out wide. Hinchliffe unable to add the extra points. This try seemed to lift the Heath players and some of the rugby played then was great to watch, Pollard was running strong lines and both wingers were seeing plenty of the ball. The forwards, led by Johnson, were relentless and winning ball to allow the backs to take on the Hull backline. Koffi Brobbey was next to cross the line, again out wide, after some quick handling and he took his try excellently - showing great pace and power. Conversion missed, Heath leading 10 - 5. Hull were soon back into the swing of their game, keeping the ball close and tight and using the size and power of their pack to take them up field and it was no surprise when they crossed, to level the scores and then convert to take what was to be a very short lead. From the resulting kick off, Fergus Marsden stole the ball and burst through their entire opposition team to score a fine individual try. Hinchliffe successful and Heath take a 17 - 12 lead. Heath were now dominant, with Brambles and Marsden winning good lineout ball and Moana plus the fearless Davies, winning lots of ball in the loose. Birkett was able to feed Hinchliffe to release his backs with Pollard scoring a fine try after beating his man, Hinchliffe again converting allowing Heath to take a 24 - 12 lead into the interval. The second half was much the same and it was Heath who started the better, again the forwards were winning ball allowing Peter Birkett to move it wide for Fullback Lewis McKenzie to score a well deserved try on his return from injury. Conversion missed but Heath now leading 29 - 12. Hull were not finished and, as the game wore on, they began to have the upper hand. The Heath forwards, with no replacements, were tiring and struggling to knock them back. There were some missed tackles in the back line which allowed Hull to score near the posts. Conversion kicked and Heath’s lead now 29 – 19, but it wasn’t long before a penalty allowed a resurgent Hull to reduce the deficit by a further 3. 29 - 22. Heath then recouped the score with a Hinchliffe penalty. 32 – 22. Heath again kicked back into action and a fine move through the backs released Parkinson who was unlucky not to score, having the ball knocked out of his hands as he crossed the line. Heath had found their second wind and were making good yardage when a penalty was awarded. Hinchliffe took aim for the posts and with the whole Hull team under their sticks, he kicked the ball toward the empty try line - out wide, chasing to recollect and, with no one to beat, he unfortunately knocked the ball on, with the try line empty in front of him. Good thinking, though points at this stage would have finished the game off. From the resulting scrum Hull took the ball the length of the field to score and convert to take the score 32 29. Whistle blown and a great result for Heath played with great commitment and skill by both teams. Doncaster in the National cup next up for Heath 2.00pm KO next Sunday.
