A bright sunny day at West Vale for this one.
Heath had several players out plus Sam Pollard & Peter Birkett on Yorkshire duty. Consequently, they kicked off with several players out of position. However, they soon got on the front foot with the forwards taking control up front and really putting the Sheffield boys under presure.
Heath had great ball retention, but the visitors really tackled well on there own line to keep the home side at bay. Then, out of nowhere, Sheffield scored 3 quick fire tries and two conversions to race in to 19. 0 lead.
Heath were in shock and then things got worse, when Jonny Porritt was sin binned for foul play. The Heath boys were really up against it then, but good approach play by Ezra Hinchcliffe allowed Richard Brambles to crash over for a great try. Hinchcliffe converted for a 19 - 7 half time score.
Coach Hethrington had a few harsh words during the break which seemed to work as Heath came out fired up. A lovely move in the backs allowed Kyle Lister to go over out wide, though the con was missed. 19 - 12.
The Heath forwrds & backs were really combining well now and Sheffield seemed to have no answer. This allowed Porritt, Heath's no 8, to score a quick fire hatrick with some great support play and finishing from the home side. Hinchcliffe 2 con for the hosts to race in to a 31 - 19 lead.
Sheffield were next to get on the score sheet, with a try out wide. Conversion missed for a 31 - 24 score and a tense finish - with both sides throwing the ball about. But it was the home side that wrapped things up, with try no 4 for Porritt. Conversion missed.
This was a really pleasing game against a strong Sheffield side. With key players missing a good performance lads!
