Good win in first clash of the season.

Heath got off to flyer in the first game of their season. They wasted no time in getting their first points on the board - after some good approach work by the forwards and some breaks in the backs, live wire hooker Wilkinson broke loose and opened the scoring with a well-taken try. Ezra Hinchcliffe converted. The Heath squad looked in good form and with Hinchcliffe running the show at fly half, it soon allowed for another quick fire try. This was a great individual effort by Jack Sheldrake and was converted by Hinchcliffe. However, from the restart, Heath were penalised for holding on and the hosts gratefully took the 3 points from the resulting penalty. 14 – 3, with Heath still in front. Next over the line, after great hands by the backs, was Jack Crabtree but this time the conversion was missed. 19 - 3 in Heath’s favour and they slipped into cruise control. This allowed Hinchcliffe to go on a great solo run, touching down out wide. Again the conversion was missed but Heath were now 24 – 3 up. The hosts were now on the back foot, as the rain swept down, but Heath continued to play free-flowing adventurous rugby. Next, Sheldrake popped up on the outside and sprinted through for his second try of the game, and Heath went into the break 29 – 3 in the lead. The conditions hadn’t improved as Heath restarted but they soon got the upper hand in the forwards, with some great work from Tom Kilner & Lewis Loxton, getting the pack over the gain line. As in the first half Hinchcliffe was controlling the game both out of hands and with the boot. He made a lovely, jinking run to crash over under the posts and then picked up the extras. 39 - 3. Heath had a few players making their debut for the club. Ben Critchley & Cofe Brobbey both had good debuts for their new club and helped in getting Heath to finish the game as they started - with two quick fire tries. The first after great lineout work from captain Stephen Hare allowed Yorkshire scrum half Peter Birkett to crash over, con Hinchcliffe .41 – 3 but just enough time for man of the match Hinchcliffe to cap a fine individual performance and get his hatrick try. This was a good first workout for the lads and with Sam Pollard & Jonathan Porritt to come back from injury and with new signing Will Tolley to come into the squad, things are looking good for the season.
