Report
Heath made a first ever visit to Preston Avenue, the home of Percy Park, looking to continue their good form but once again had to make several changes to the team due to injuries and unavailability. Callum Harriott-Brown moved to full back, Elliott Knight returned from injury on to the wing and Dominic Horn came in at centre while the forwards saw Jack Pilcher and Seif Boussaada get starts with Pete Hampshire, Jonny Garrity and Carter Haigh on the bench.
Conditions were ideal as both teams entered the field, with the usual hardy Heath supporters in attendance - hoping for an entertaining game and they were not to be disappointed. However, it was Percy Park who had the perfect start scoring an unconverted try in the second minute to take the lead 5-0. Heath's response was immediate and a big hit from Jack Pilcher set up a chance for them and following some slick handling Ezra Hinchliffe released Dom Horn who sped over for a try, converted by Chris Johnson, 7-5, with only five minutes played.
Heath were building in confidence with ball in hand, dominating scrums in a period of sustained pressure as Park struggled - having a player carded in the process and it came as no surprise to see Harvey Keighley-Payne finish with a try, converted by Johnson, 14-5 with twelve minutes played. The home team looked to get back into the game but Heath's defence was solid and from yet another onslaught on the home defence Seif Boussaada was on hand to crash over the whitewash for a third converted try, 21-5 with twenty-five minutes on the clock. From the re-start a huge clearance kick from Chris Johnson put the home side back under pressure but despite Carter Haigh and Pete Hampshire replacing Seif Boussaada and Jack Pilcher there was no further score as the half time whistle sounded.
The second half began with Heath continuing to batter the home defence and from a charge down kick Ben Stringer was on hand to touchdown for a bonus point fourth try, converted by the reliable boot of Chris Johnson, 28-5 with forty-five minutes on the clock.
All game the Heath pack had been dominant in the scums and from yet another drive Tom Clough peeled off to touchdown for a fifth converted try 35-5 with a quarter of the game left to play but, once again, credit to the home side who managed to cross for an unconverted try, 35-10 and when Jack Pilcher received a yellow from the re-start Park went looking to add to their tally putting the visitors defence under severe pressure. However, the Heath defence was solid and when Ezra Hinchliffe intercepted a pass he sped off on a fifty metre run before releasing the supporting Elliott Knight who slipped a pass to Jack Bruce who in turn gave the ball to Dom Walsh who crossed the try-line for a sixth try, converted by Chris Johnson, 42-10 to complete the scoring with ten minutes left to play.
Once again the home team tried to get another score but Heath were in no mood to concede and the game petered out.
Maximum points from the win was credit to how Heath approached the game, defending well, dominating the scums and clinical in converting tries when opportunities arose. Next up is the visit of third place Sandal to North Dean before the Christmas break. See you there!!
