A good run through against a sharp side.

Heath entertained National 2 side Otley in a pre-season friendly and despite being on the wrong end of a 22-8 scoreline the hosts played some entertaining rugby and matched the visitors for long periods of the game.

It was an even first twenty minutes as both sides battled for possession and Heath were unlucky not to score after constant pressure but the visitors defence would not be breached and in a rare breakaway they scored a try in the corner to lead 5-0 at the end of the first quarter. After the water break Heath continued to play some good rugby and were rewarded with a try in the corner from Jack Bruce to level the scores. As the half time whistle sounded it had been an excellent first half with both teams fully committed in entertaining the large crowd.

The second half began with both teams testing each other but it was Otley who took the lead on fifty minutes with yet another clinical break scoring in the corner, 10-5. Heath replied with a converted penalty from Chris Johnson and on the hour mark Johnson was just wide of the mark with a drop kick attempt. Heath continued to press but once again, from a mistake, Otley collected the ball and broke through the home defence. A kick and chase followed with Otley scoring in the corner to increase their lead to 15-8. The visitors began the last quarter strong and increased their lead with a converted try and despite Heath going close for a score the end result was a win for Otley in what had been a very entertaining game.

Heath had over twenty players for the game and all played some part. Lots to work on but this was a good performance against a team who, once in possession, were clinical in finishing.
