Report:

Heath travelled to Broomfield with a number of changes but confident of continuing their fine league form. In a game dominated by Heath forwards, Crocs rugby league trained pack struggled to get any foothold in the game.

Heath defended well against some strong runners with Crocs conceding a number of penalties, Richard Cole kicking deep into the corners. From two of these positions Heath opened the scoring with Oliver Cook crashing over and Ian Downsborough controlling superbly to dot down from a pushover scrum. Cole struck the uprights with both conversion attempts. Undeterred, the home side hit back with two tries of their own. One of their elusive wingers sprinted clear and then from a mistake on the half way, their open side showed a clean pair of heals to give them a two point lead. Heath hit straight back, Luca Powell scoring from close range after Si Brown’s well timed pass. Cole converting from the touchline (after scraping himself off the floor after been levelled by an ex-pupil). Flankers, Max Dawes, Matthew Wilkinson, and later Sam Horner tackled superbly all game against larger, robust opposition. On half time, Heath’s scrum won a penalty try as the home team’s pack crumpled under pressure. Half time 12-24.

Heath started the second half in the same vein with the pack on top. Player of the match Rondene Johnson, Joe Shipman, George Heron, Downsborough and Richard Dance carrying well. After another penalty try from a scrum, Crocs discovered an injury in their front row to go uncontested. Dance scored his routine try, smashing his way over from close range. Crocs scored two more well taken tries before the end. Next to score for Heath was a rampaging Cooky who took a four ball from Max Rowntree on the blindside to out pace and smash his way over defenders from 20 metres out. Powell finished well in the corner to complete the scoring. Full time 24-46.

Another great performance against a team determined to disrupt. Heath’s discipline and power was too much for the hosts, who crumbled at vital times. Onto next week, Morley at home in the league.
