Match Report
Heath travelled up to Newcastle to take on Tyndale in their latest round of National League 2 competition. It was a first ever meeting between the Clubs and as usual there was a large contingent of Heath supporters in attendance.
Conditions were ideal as Heath kicked off playing towards the clubhouse end but Tynedale were in no mood to mess about and in their first attack they scored a converted try and led 7-0 with only two minutes on the clock. The home forwards were too strong for Heath and it came as no surprise when they added a second converted try on twelve minutes 14-0.
Heath needed to try to keep possession and after twenty minutes they were successful when Chris Johnson converted a penalty after sustained pressure from them in the Tynedale 22, 14-3. Heath continued to battle, showing some slick handling but Tynedale were a strong nut to crack. Then, out of nowhere, an aimless kick through on the half-way line was chased down and with Heath left wide open, Tynedale scored under the posts, 21-3. The home side were now turning the screw with some slick handling and Heath were left chasing shadows as Tynedale scored a fourth converted try 28-3.
Credit, once again to Heath, who responded with their own attacking play but they could not find a way through the home defence as the half time whistle sounded.
Dan Smith replaced Chris Moore at the start of the second half and shortly after that Jonny Cole came on for Alex McFadden and both new entrants were involved in the next phase of the game. From a Heath line out Cole found Harvey Keighley-Payne and the run around saw Cole collect the ball before slipping it to Dan Smith who crashed over for a converted try, 28-10 with five minutes of the second half played.
Tom Clough and Elliott Spiers were replaced by Dylan North and Seb Jeffers but before they could settle Tynedale responded with an attack resulting in a converted try 35-10 forty-seven minutes.
Tom Egan came off for Max Rowntree as Tynedale began to turn the screw - keeping possession, driving into a fragile Heath defence and it came as no surprise when they added to their tally with another converted try, 42-10 with a quarter of the game left to play. Heath needed to re-group and look to get hold of the ball. Credit must go to the side, as they eventually found a way through the home defence. Tynedale had a player yellow carded and Heath took advantage with some slick handling, which saw the ball reach Jake Haynes who scored in the corner. Chris Johnson added the extras, 42-17.
With ten minutes left Harvey Keighley-Payne and Ben Stringer made way for Alex McFadden and Elliott Spiers as Heath went in search of adding to the score and they were rewarded with a second try from Jake Haynes, converted by Johnson, 42-24. With four minutes left to play, Heath went in search of a bonus point fourth try but time was on Tynedale's side as the referee blew for full time to end the game.
It had been a valiant effort from Heath as they left the field battered and bruised with nothing to show for it. Attention now must turn to next weeks derby game against Huddersfield at North Dean. As always see you there!!
