Rugby at Heath RUFC, Halifax
Heath currently run two open age sides on a regular basis, with a third "Social" team playing from time to time. There are two good pitches at the North Dean ground and a superb clubhouse and changing facilities. The main pitch has match standard floodlights and a stand, with the second pitch having quality training lights. Training is held at the Club on Tuesday and Thursday nights, meet 7pm for a 7.30pm start but, if conditions deteriorate during the winter months, then we try to hire all weather or indoor facilities. We have the services of Head Coach Dave Harrison who is assisted by Richard Brown, Sid Sayles, Richard Cole and Mark Puttick.
This time around the First team enter their thirteenth consecutive season of playing in Yorkshire 1, the highest level Heath has ever played at. The team are constantly working towards promotion and just missed out last season in the play-offs. Head Coach Dave Harrison, his coaching staff and First Team Captain Alex McFadden are working hard to see that this comes about. They are supported in their efforts by all of the Officers of the Club, plus the many players and followers of Heath. Meanwhile the Second XV play in the Championship North Merit League and also play a number of friendly fixtures to ensure a full programme throughout the season. The third team squad play a number of friendly fixtures throughout the season.
At the start of each season all players receive pre-match kit and match shorts and socks. All players are asked to find, if possible, a sponsor at a cost of £100 but if they cannot find one then they pay club subscriptions of; Full member £40 pa plus weekly match fees. For reference, Social membership is £20 and Junior / Student £20.
Players have full physiotherapy assessment/support at training and the Firsts have coverage before, during and after each league and cup game. If further treatment is required, the club is linked to Heath Mount Physiotherapists in Halifax where appointments can be made.
Remember, that even though we've a strong and well-organised playing set up, we are also a welcoming Club with a good social life - just look at the News and Events section on this site for confirmation.
Six years ago the club completed a major overall of its facilities with a new clubhouse, state of the art changing rooms and physio area, revamped junior/training rooms as well as landscaping the site. We have also added a fully equipped gym area, improved car parking and pitch surrounds - so, linked to the superb floodlit pitches and training areas, we feel we could be viewed as the Premier Amateur Club in the Halifax and Calderdale area.
The club runs a thriving Junior section with five teams at present. Our Under 7 and 8 squads play tag rugby, with our Under 12,15 and 18 sides playing fixtures on a regular basis. Every effort is made to ensure all players are coached the basics of rugby and make progress needed to eventually feed into the senior teams. At present, the Senior teams have in their squad several players who won the North of England championship as Colts and were runners up in the National Cup.
The current Under 16 squad play on a Sunday in the West League and train alongside the senior squads on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. A number of fully qualified coaches help out with the organisation of training, and on matchdays, and the team is well supported. The other squads either train or play games on a Sunday morning. All age groups are still looking for players and everyone will be made most welcome.
