Heath U15’s vs Bradford Salem

Following another week off due to continuation of the seasons inclement weather, and a good training session on Wednesday, the under 15’s travelled to Bradford Salem.

With the conditions underfoot extremely soft from the previous days deluge, at least the overhead conditions on the day allowed the game to go ahead on one of the right hand pitch on the top tier.  The home side, both big in numbers and size, were a much changed outfit from the side Heath encountered last season and Heath found themselves up against a fast physical opposition straight from the kick off.

The home side were quickly on attack testing the Heath defence leading to an early right to left kick pass that Wing Adam Ayub was able to disrupt enough to stop an opening minute scoring opportunity for the home side.  A brief intrusion into the Bradford half ended with a pass to charging No 8 Isaac Shaw ruled forward halting the brief spell of momentum.  Bradfords hard running backline sent Heath back towards their own try line where eventually the pressure on the Heath defence led to a home side try after eight minutes.

The Heath defence was getting well and truly tested and only a couple of minutes later the opposition were held up over the try line leading to a Heath scrum feed 5m out.  The pressure of the bigger home pack was too much and Bradford were over for two tries in quick succession.

A good spell in attack and defence followed and it was another eleven minutes before the Bradford fullback launched an individual effort from inside his own half to take the score to 26-0 at halftime.

Changes were made at half time to relieve some legs that were being tired in the heavy conditions and that saw all substitutes on the field within 5 minutes of the restart.  Despite some pockets of good work in defence the home side started to easily find gaps and overlaps resulting in a steady trickle of points to the home side throughout the second half, which went unanswered by the visitors.
