As we approach another season in Yorkshire, there is lots going on at the club in preparation for the new season .
Whilst I write these notes, the contractors are just putting the finishing touches to the car park .This has been done at a large expense to the club and something myself and the committee felt needed doing, to keep the club moving forward on and off the field .So, please respect the new surface on your next visit to the club and drive carefully in the club grounds .
The friends of Heath lead by Tom Walton and with his band of helpers, have been very busy in pre season - not just doing all the much needed work round the grounds, keeping it all neat and tidy etc - but they have managed to build a gym out of some old containers that we had on site! Financially, we received some help from Nat West rugby Force, from whom we got £500 pounds, and also there was the £800 pounds that we raised from the RFU raffle. Tom's Wednesday Team have done a great job and I would like to thank them plus Tim Cook for all the help and hours on site to get this gym up and running . This will help the lads so much in pre season and will benefit the club in years to come .
Those members who are old enough to remember the layout of the old changing rooms, with the old entrance at the back of the club, as we came down the ramp through the garage may be in for a pleasant surprise. We have decided to update the old changing rooms and make a new main entrance lobby- through the old physio room and up the existing staircase. I'm sure you all will be impressed with the changes we have made. There's also, new toilet block downstairs under the balcony that wiil be accessible on match days and training nights . Exsisting changing rooms are all newly decorated and all rewired to the latest safety standards pls a new rugby store and extra storage made for general use. We are looking to be complete for Friday the 4th August just in time for the bikers rally.
Once again we have invested quite heavly on our 2 pitches over the summer - with both pitches being drilled, verti drained, fertilised and weed treated. And we've sowed 20 bags of grass seed! This is a must every season now to keep the pitches looking as good as they do.
So, as you can see, there is lots going on and off the fields in order to keep improving the facilty for members and guests alike. This is some thing I'm very proud of and to be driving things forward as Chairman and Manager of this great Club .
Back to rugby; on the field, we started pre season training last week with 40 lads turning up for the first 2 sessions of the season! Excellent. We have a new captain on board this season, with Ian Downsborough taking over as 1st Team skipper. I would like to thank our departing skipper, Dom Walsh for all his hard work at the Club and wish him good luck with is new Club, Sandal . As ever, in pre season, there is lots of talk of player movement between the clubs. As it stands, I know Harry is talking to several players about joing us at Heath, for our push to get to North East 1 next season. Hopfully, we have some Colts coming back from University, to bolster our numbers, throughout the Club as well.
We have a mouthwatering opening home game v our local rivals, Old Rishes, to look forward to on Sat the 9th September.
With our 2nds being in the top merit league this season, after last years promotion, it's going to be tough but something we are looking forward to, as a Club moving forward .
Our junior section went from strength to strength last season, with our new U15s and U10s / 11s & U9s /10s all coming through the ranks. We are looking to build this again this season and we have fixtures in place for the U15s and with the other age groups as well. Watch this space for details on training dates and times .
Well, that's it from me, enjoy the rest of your summer break - see you at Middlesborough on the 2nd Sept or down at Heath for the big derby game v the Rishes on the 9th.
We are open tue & thurs, from 7pm - so, come and have a beer and watch the lads train.
Hope this gives you an idea wots going on at your club,
your Chairman, Sproggit ( Paul Sutcliffe )
