Rugby at Heath RUFC, Halifax
Heath currently runs two open age sides on a regular basis, with a third "Social" team playing from time to time. There are two good pitches at the West Vale ground. The main pitch has match standard floodlights and a stand, with the second pitch having quality training lights. Training is held at the Club on Tuesday and Thursday nights, meet 7pm for a 7.30pm start but if conditions deteriorate during the winter months, then we try to hire all weather or indoor facilities. We have the services of Head Coach Dave Harrison who is assisted by Richard Brown and Richard Cole.
This season the First team enter their eleventh consecutive season of playing in Yorkshire 1, the highest level Heath has ever played at. The team are constantly working towards further promotions and Head Coach Dave Harrison, his coaching staff and First Team Captain Ian Downsborough are working hard to see that this comes about. They are supported in their efforts by all of the Officers of the Club, plus the many players and followers of Heath. Meanwhile the Second XV play in the Championship Merit League and also play a number of friendly fixtures to ensure a full programme throughout the season. The third ream squad play a number of friendly fixtures throughout the season.
At the start of each season all players receive shorts, socks, polo shirt, dress shirt, hoodie and a match day bag and play matches in sponsored shirts. At the start of each season players are asked to find, if possible, a sponsor at a cost of £100 but if they cannot find one then they pay club subscriptions of; Full member Subs at £40 and weekly match fees. For reference, Social membership is £20 and Junior / Student £20.
Players have full physiotherapy assessment/support at training and the Firsts have coverage before, during and after each league and cup game. If further treatment is required, the club is linked to Heath Mount Physiotherapists in Halifax where appointments can be made.
Remember, that even though we've a strong and well-organised playing set up, we are also a welcoming Club with a good social life - just look at the events and news section on this site for confirmation.
Three years ago the club completed a major overall of its facilities with a new clubhouse, state of the art changing rooms and physio area, revamped junior/training rooms as well as landscaping the site. This season we have added a gym area and improved car parking and linked to the superb floodlit pitches and training areas we feel we could be viewed as the Premier Amateur Club in the Halifax and Calderdale area.
The club runs a thriving Junior section with two teams at present, Under 15 and Under 11. Every effort is made to ensure all players are coached the basics and make progress needed to eventually feed into the senior teams. At present the senior teams have several players who won the North of England championship as Colts and were runners up in the National Cup.
The current Under 15 squad play on a Sunday in the West League and train on a Wednesday evening from 7pm. A number of fully qualified coaches help out with the organisation of training and on matchdays and the team is well supported. Several players have also been selected for the Yorkshire West squad and are looking at trialling for the Yorkshire squad.
The Under 11 squad is a new side and train on a Sunday morning from 11am to 12. They are still looking for players and everyone will be made most welcome. Plans are also being to organise a younger age group.
