Match Report: Sunday 7 February 2010

FINAL SCORE: Heath RUFC 32 vs Dinnington 0
Heath eased through to the Yorkshire Cup semi finals after an impressive result against Dinnington.

Heath got this ¼ final underway unphased by Dinnington’s size and, whilst both teams struggled to get any foothold in the forwards, early on, Heath were awarded a penalty from which Crabtree made a quick break, backed up by Sheldrake. The rest of the forwards supported and kept it tight up front until Lewis Foxton picked up and charge over for the first score of the day. The conversion was missed.

The West Vale lads continued with some spirited rugby infront of a good-sized crowd at West Vale. Ezra Hinchcliffe put in a cracking kick to take play deep into Dinnington’s half. Good line out ball was won by Tom Kilner, who was driven on by his fellow forwards until Peter Birkett broke blind from the back of the ruck and then scored a great try in the corner. Again the conversion was missed. 10 - 0.

Dinnington kicked dead from the restart so heath took the scrum back. They then were awarded a penalty for foot up. Live wire Jonny Porritt took a quick tap and went go on a barnstorming run through the the heart of the visitor’s defence. After several hand offs he passed to Jack Sheldrake to crash over for a great score. Another missed conversion but Heath were now moving away at 15 – 0.

From the half time break Heath used their bench in the second half to make several changes. This allowed the backs to open up and play some flowing rugby. Early on their fly half Hinchcliffe took advantage of some weak tackling to score under the posts and this time he added the extras. 22 - 0 to Heath.

The hosts were now in total control and the next score was the best of the game. Birkett made the break, taken on by Sheldrake who passed onto Czerpaniak, who broke the tackle to offload to Porritt to touch down. This for a great team try. 27 – 0 with only minutes remaining.

Just time then for one more late try. Will Nicholl showed some good footwork skills to break through a tiring defence and score out wide, sadly followed by another missed conversion. A fine performance to take Heath U15s through to their first Yorkshire Cup semi final.

Heath 32 - 0 winners.
