Age Grade Rugby from the Weekend - Magic Morning's Rugby at Morley.

Heath u10s by Rick Carter

The Heath U10s (including some U9s) played at Morley RUFC on Sunday 11 October. On a dry sunny morning 9 players turned out against a depleted Morley side. To ensure that as many of the players were
playing as possible 4 of the Heath team volunteered to take it in turns to play for Morley so thanks go to Vinny, Emily, Ethan and Lucas. It meant that we had an 8-a-side game of 45 minutes.
The rules were played for under 9s so there were no scrums but all the players enjoyed being able to tackle.
All players made an excellent contribution to the team performance. Bradley, Tansy and Vinny made some mazey runs to score a number of tries each. Kye and Ethan (who scored more tries for Morley than he did for Heath) used a more direct route to score their tries, often carrying 3 or 4 Morley players over the line with them.
There were some great drives from both Emilys, Isla and Cerys and Lucas snaffled some good ball at the breakdown. Bradley led the way in the tackling department with some try saving tackles and bundled more
than one Morley player into touch. With so many tries it was hard to keep count but I think Heath just edged it! Well done to all who turned out and it will be great to see how their rugby careers progress in the future.
I was really pleased with Ethan's straight running and how well he looked after the ball, however player of the match goes to Bradley for his tackling.

Heath u11s by Richard Inwood

U11’s had a fantastic game with both sides equally matched. Heath had a storming start, with Morley coming back stronger in the second half. The game is getting quite technical now with the ruck and refs are being a little stricter, but the team learnt and performed brilliantly. Special mention to Lennon Fermoyle and Iwan for this being only their 3rd and 1st game ever!

And Player of the Week goes to Ben for forming the most rucks – Ben was constantly in the action at the break down and had some great breaks as well.

The Morley coach was very impressed with the team. Well done to all, I was proud of every player, some great effort (too much to mention!).

Heath u12s by Al Gordon

This week Heath came up against a very well organised Morley u12s. It was clear from the open two minutes that Heath were in for a tough morning, particularly with adjusting to the new rules at the age grade
for hooking in the scrum and the maul being refereed strictly.

Morley scored 3 opening tries with some excellent interaction from their back line. Heath started to get into the game with strong running from Jesse Boothroyd and Scotty Mitchell. Jesse scored Heath’s opening try and the lads started to lift. At the first break Heath trailed 3 tries to 1.
The second third started better for Heath with an early try by Jesse. The lads were competing more at the ruck, however Heath continued to struggle at the scrum - plenty of lessons learnt for training! There were no struggles in the defensive line, where Scotty was chopping down anyone then ran at him.
The final third saw some good breaks by Charlie Anderson and great handling by Mason Pullan who was getting more confident as the game went on. Morley continued to press and by the final whistle Morley won
comfortably. Heath will learn from this game and with half of the team playing up a year plenty to be proud of. Player of the week - Scotty Mitchell.
