Heath U15s vs Huddersfield Laund Hill
Final Score: Heath 26 – 14 Laund Hill
Heath U15s marked their debut fixture in style, welcoming Huddersfield Laund Hill to the first team pitch on a sunlit Remembrance Sunday. Both teams paid tribute to the fallen with a moment of silence, made especially poignant by a moving rendition of the Last Post from club legend Roger Hammond.
Laund Hill won the toss and opted to kick off, with Heath playing towards the Calder. From the outset, Heath showed structure and intent, using their forwards in pods and recycling the ball efficiently at the breakdown.
Laund Hill, however, were no pushovers. Their defensive organisation and powerful ball carriers—particularly their hooker and number eight—posed a constant threat.
In the 12th minute, Heath broke the deadlock with a sweeping move from their own 22. Crisp handling across the backline culminated in a smart draw-and-pass from outside centre Louie Moss, creating space for Ethan Gill to step past his opposite number and scorch past the fullback to score a brilliant unconverted try.
12’ Heath 5 – 0 Laund Hill
Laund Hill responded immediately with a sharp restart that caught Heath napping. Only a last-ditch tackle and a textbook jackal on the try line prevented an equaliser.
Moments later, Heath struck again. A crossfield kick from Sonny Gordon was gathered by Moss, who charged in from the Laund Hill 22 to dot down under the posts. Gordon added the extras.
18’ Heath 12 – 0 Laund Hill
The forwards continued to dominate, with standout performances from Lewis Farrell and Jasper Haigh plus strong runs by the ever improving Charlie Anderson. A high ball from Ethan Murphy was chased down by Gordon, who offloaded to Oscar Szadbey. The winger muscled his way over in the corner, and Gordon nailed a stunning touchline conversion.
22’ Heath 19 – 0 Laund Hill
To their credit, Laund Hill dug deep, with strong carries from their back row and midfield. Moss was sent to the bin for a high tackle, and Laund Hill capitalised on the numerical advantage. A clever kick into the Heath 22 bounced awkwardly, and a misjudged attempt to call a mark led to a turnover and a well-earned try.
HT: Heath 19 – 7 Laund Hill
The second half began with Heath losing their shape, as individual glory began to overshadow team play. Several chances out wide went begging due to missed offloads—an area the team has been working hard on in training.
In the 42nd minute, Heath earned a penalty five metres out. Murphy took a quick tap and powered over with defenders clinging on.
42’ Heath 26 – 7 Laund Hill
Laund Hill began to control the tempo, while Heath’s focus wavered. A penalty on the Heath 22 allowed their captain and hooker to charge through and score under the posts.
54’ Heath 26 – 14 Laund Hill
Despite a strong finish, Heath couldn’t break Laund Hill’s resilient defence. A final break from the visitors’ fullback was halted by a superb cover tackle from Murphy, sealing the win.
š Post-Match Reflections
•ā ā Result: A solid win against a talented and determined Laund Hill side—well done, lads.
