A message regarding:
The Crossley Heath School Heritage Open Day:
Saturday 7 September 2024 – between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm.
"We will be taking part in the Halifax Heritage Festival and will open our doors on Saturday 7 September between 10 am and 2pm for anyone who wishes to visit.
2024 marks the 160th anniversary of this beautiful building and a warm welcome is extended to all who wish to step inside this listed treasure. Our school building was opened in 1864 as a school and orphanage for girls and boys. We adopted the name The Crossley Heath School in 1985 in recognition of our shared history from the founding schools of Heath Grammar School (c1600) and Crossley & Porter School (c1857). As a result, we have a wealth of artefacts and memorabilia from both schools for you to peruse which demonstrates the school’s significant place in Halifax’s history over the years.
Our exciting new heritage timeline project, erected on the ground floor over the summer as part of our 160th celebrations, depicts our rich history from Heath Grammar School days to the present time. We would love to share this with you. You will also have the opportunity to view important historical documents, artefacts and archive material.
Guided tours of the cellar will be available on the day and you will be able to wander around the corridors and view the main hall, the centrepiece of the school.
Refreshments will be available in the dining room.
We look forward to seeing you.
Yours sincerely
Debbie Gallimore
